Richie Rich — born Richard Nektalov — started spending his time at Leon Diamond with his father and brother when he was just 8 years old, and now at 26, he’s bringing the family business to A-list clients.

“The store wasn’t really selling the big 40-carat diamonds or 15-carat diamonds. My brother and my cousin went into that business and started buying more stones. We had the capital to invest into those big rocks,” Nektalov recently told Page Six of how he began to brand himself. “I opened up Instagram — Instagram came in like 2011, 2012.”

“My family was yelling at me, cursing at me, ‘Don’t do it! It’s bad. We could become a target. It’s dangerous.’ I said, ‘You guys don’t know what you’re talking about. This is the future.’ And I opened up a page.”

He also started a Facebook account and branded himself as the youngest jeweler to the stars at the time. He’d follow celebrities to the clubs to hand out business cards and confessed to us that a few celebrities blocked him — but later they unblocked him and commissioned him for pieces. The first star that reached out to him to design a piece was a former “Shahs of Sunset” star.

“The first design was for Lilly Ghalichi. Me and my cousin Mike Nekta, we sat down and designed her ring. It was a pear-shaped 15-carat I believe,” he said.

The engagement ring that he did for Mel B took him, in his opinion, “to the top.” She first contacted him through Instagram direct messages, and “pretended it was some Joe Schmo.” He didn’t believe that he was actually going to be wired the money before creating the ring — a standard policy at his store — but he got it immediately and built the ring that she wore from Stephen Belafonte in one day.

“They didn’t see [her] ring [before purchasing],” he explained. “I made a similar ring and I posted it on Instagram and it caught their attention. Their assistant contacted me and asked if I could beat the price that they were getting from somewhere else. I beat the price. They flew me out business class into London to deliver the ring. This was in 2014. She was happy, but unfortunately, they’re divorced now!”

Since then, Nektalov rebranded himself as Richie Rich, telling us: “My family always called me Richie Rich. I was always into expensive cars. I love clothing, shoes, sneakers. But I was sitting down with Jonathan Cheban and we were sitting down having lunch — obviously he’s the Foodgod — and he was telling me ‘Listen Richie, you can’t have an underscore in your name…You’ve got to change that. No one’s going to call you by your last name.’ We were going through names and he was like, ‘What about Richie Rich?’ and that just stuck.”

But, he added his location to his name as the moniker was taken despite the fact that his clients typically don’t need to come to New York for him. He flies to wherever the celebrity is — sometimes in private jets — and hand delivers pieces to them. Off-duty cops follow him to ensure that he’s safe throughout his travels and the jewelry is always insured.

The jeweler refused to tell us exactly where he’s traveled to or how much certain clients have spent, citing confidentiality agreements. For instance, he would only give us a range of how much Scott’s Astroworld ring set him back.

“I prefer [clients] to sign an NDA so that way they feel safe with me knowing that I’m not going to open my mouth about anything to anybody,” he said. “It’s more than just selling jewelry. I try to build a friendship with my clientele where it’s like if they get a better price at a different jewelry store I’ll tell them to buy it. If someone is offering something to them at a better price, I’ll be there for them to buy them there.”
